Robin Machuca serves as the Executive Director at The Barclay at St. Augustine. Originally from Texas, she has a nursing degree, as well as certifications to be a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Assisted Living Administrator. Her experience includes working as a nurse in long-term care. Her favorite part of working with seniors is their stories, and her favorite part of working at QSLM seeing how happy the residents are every day. When Robin isn’t working, she likes walking on the beach and reading.

Holly Vernon
Director of Sales
Holly Vernon is the Director of Sales at The Barclay at St. Augustine. She’s originally from Reston, Virginia. Holly holds a Florida Real Estate license and has worked in sales and management for over 17 years. She has a passion for training and developing new talent. She enjoys working at QSLM because it feels like working with family, and she loves building relationships with her residents and their loved ones. She says, “Seeing the positive impact community life can bring is very rewarding.”
When Holly isn’t working, she loves going to the beach and being outdoors. She’s also the mom of a little girl, and they enjoy going to Disney whenever they can!
Nan Smathers
Director of Wellness
Nan Smathers is the Director of Wellness at The Barclay at St. Augustine. The youngest of five children, Nan was born in upstate Corinth, New York. She grew up and lived in Maryland and Virginia until she moved to Florida 3 years ago. Nan has an LPN from Southampton Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Virginia. She is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), an Association Management Specialist (AMS), a Licensed General Contractor in Virginia, and an Ordained Minister. She has been a Director of Nursing for 13 years and has held the position of Executive Director in Assisted Living Communities. Her absolute favorite part of working with seniors is hearing the stories of their past. She enjoys working at QSLM because she’s able to provide a joyous time for residents and their families. She says, “Time is precious.”
Outside of work, Nan loves to sing, sew, and make crafts.
Celina Makowski
Director of Business Operations
Celina Makowski is the Director of Business at The Barclay at St. Augustine. Originally from Albion, New York, she has lived in St. Augustine for 41 years! Celina holds a BS in Healthcare Administration and an MBA with a Healthcare Administration focus from South University, as well as a Doctorate in Healthcare Leadership from Capella University. She is also a Medical Librarian (AHIP), a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), and a Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP). She spent 19 years at Flagler Hospital, holding the roles of Medical Librarian, Manager of Continuing Medical Education, Institutional Review Board Secretary, Medical Student Coordinator, Continuing Professional Development Author, and Billing/business office member. She also has experience as a Health Information Management Adjunct Instructor.
Celina enjoys working with seniors because they are our living history, and she enjoys working at QSLM because of the daily challenges it presents.
Celina loves to read and learn, and when she isn’t working, she enjoys gardening and creating edible landscaping.
Sword Krefting
Sales Coordinator
Sword Krefting is the Sales Coordinator at our community. Born and raised in Gainesville, Florida, he moved to St. Augustine in 2014 to attend Flagler College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and an Associate of Arts in Advertising. He also has an Associate of Sciences in Business Management from Santa Fe College in Gainesville. Aside from his theatre background, he has been in the retail and hospitality field for 10+ years and is a certified instructor for Drama/Theatre for grades 6-12. Sword’s favorite part of working with seniors is hearing their incredible stories. He says, “Seniors have experiences that future generations will never go through.” His favorite part of working at QSLM is our team because everyone is friendly and easy to work with.
In his free time, Sword likes to exercise, spend time with family and friends, read books, work on house projects, and produce his film-focused podcast.
He says, “We’re here for you and your family! Our dining experience is excellent, and we treat you with the respect and clarity you deserve.”
Donna Schwartz
Director of Activities
Donna is the Director of Activities at The Barclay at St. Augustine. Originally from Massachusetts, Donna has a degree in Psychology and Social Work from the University of Massachusetts. She is also a nationally certified Level 2 Activity Director.
Before joining the team at The Barclay at St. Augustine, Donna held a variety of titles like Community Case Management, Event Planner/Fundraiser/Board Member for a non-profit, Child Advocacy and International Adoption Placement, Adult Day Health Activity Director, Social Worker and Activities Director in Skilled Nursing Facilities, and an Assisted Living Activities Director.
Donna’s favorite part about working with seniors is the time she spends with them, helping them to enjoy life and making sure that a great quality of life is prioritized. Working with QSLM gives her the opportunity to work with terrific residents and enjoy the beautiful building of The Barclay in historic St. Augustine.
When she’s not working, Donna likes to spend her time with family, taking in St. Augustine, and caring for her three dogs.
Jennifer Kennedy
Director of Memory Care
Jennifer is the Director of Memory Care at The Barclay at St. Augustine. A Florida native, she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification from First Coast Technical Institute. Jennifer brings more than 17 years of nursing experience, with a background that ranges from prenatal care to geriatric care, giving her a well-rounded perspective on supporting individuals through every stage of life.
Jennifer’s favorite part of working with seniors is listening to their life stories and learning from their experiences. Her favorite part of working at QSLM is having the opportunity to slow down and spend meaningful time with residents.
In her free time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family.
She says, “We’re here for you and your family, and we’re committed to providing compassionate care and support every step of the way.”
Makayla Cohelho
Reunion Program Coordinator
Makayla Coelho serves as the Reunion Program Coordinator at The Barclay at St. Augustine. She was born and raised in New Jersey until the age of 14. Makayla is dedicated to growing professionally and is actively seeking relevant courses and certifications to strengthen her expertise. She has spent over a decade working her way up to her current position, having worked as a kitchen member, receptionist, Activity Assistant, and Memory Care Activities Director. Her favorite part of working with seniors is the stories they tell. She says that many of them have led extraordinary lives, and every single one is different. She loves hearing about everyone's past and the things they’ve accomplished. Every story is truly inspiring. Her favorite part of working at QSLM is the relationships she creates with everyone she meets. She says, “Being able to support others and advocate for residents is the most rewarding part of my job.”
Outside of work, Makayla loves to take care of her mini farm at home. She has lots of plants, animals, and kids running around that require different amounts of care and provide some very funny moments in her daily life.
She says, “I am extremely grateful for the life I lead today, and I thank God every day for waking me up to enjoy it all over again.”
John McClure
Director of Facilities Management
John McClure serves as the Director of Facilities Management at The Barclay at St. Augustine. John was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and grew up around construction. He is a certified carpenter and has 30 years of experience that includes commercial door installation, carpet installation, and many forms of construction, including building several portable classrooms for the Clay County Florida School District. John has spent many of his adult years without grandparents, so he has formed great respect for seniors and everything they do, and his favorite part of working at QSLM is the relationships and experiences he’s had with the seniors and his co-workers over the years.
Outside of work, John loves to build and fix things.
Adam Bashy
Director of Dining Services
Adam Bashy is the Director of Dining Services at The Barclay at St. Augustine, and he is a St. Augustine native. Adam is a Certified Food Safety Manager through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals. He has worked in Independent and Assisted Living for over 10 years. He started as a dishwasher at an Independent Living Facility in high school and has worked his way up, having experience as a cook, a sous chef, and a culinary and dining service director.
Adam’s favorite part of working with seniors is learning about their life stories. He feels that they have a lot of wisdom and history to share about previous generations. He enjoys working for QSLM because they truly care about the residents, and it shows through the support and resources the team is given to ensure the residents are well cared for.
Outside of work, Adam enjoys doing carpentry, doing all types of handyman work, and remodeling houses. He enjoys taking something dull and plain and making it look nice and elegant.
Adam says, “We love our residents here at The Barclay and enjoy preparing a great meal and providing attentive service for our residents in our fine dining program.”
