Emily Hartshorn is the General Manager at Ashley Park by Barclay House. Born and raised in Connecticut, she moved to Charleston, South Carolina, four and a half years ago to pursue her passion for senior care. Emily holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University.
Her dedication to the senior living industry stems from personal experience—growing up, her grandparents lived with her family, and together they navigated the challenges of Alzheimer's and geriatric care. This early exposure sparked her interest in a career centered around helping others, particularly seniors.
After graduating in 2015, Emily began her career in child psychiatry, completing an internship at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Child Psychiatry Unit. Though she found joy in that work, her move to Charleston reignited her desire to work with seniors. She began her journey at Ashley Park as the Activity Director and was soon promoted to Regional Activity Director, where she supported 28 communities in building and enhancing their life enrichment programs. Her commitment to growth led her to take on roles in operations and sales, including Office Manager and Community Sales Manager. For nearly two years, she has proudly served as General Manager, embracing every learning opportunity along the way.
Emily’s favorite part of working with seniors is the meaningful relationships she builds with residents and their families. What she appreciates most about working for Barclay House is the organization’s flexibility and dedication to customizing care and operations to fit the unique needs of each community while staying true to a shared vision.
When she’s not working, Emily enjoys spending time with her family, especially spoiling her niece and cooking together. She also travels back to Connecticut several times a year to visit lifelong friends—though she makes sure to avoid the cold winters. A lifelong dancer, Emily recently began teaching a tap class at the community to share her passion for dance with residents.
